Israel and Iran fight a twelve-day war

Israel struck Iranian nuclear and military sites, and Iran responded with missile attacks as the United States entered the conflict with strikes on Fordow and Natanz. A ceasefire ended the fighting after twelve days, but the confrontation left the region closer to direct state-to-state war than at any point in decades.
